About the project

This project was the development of an MVP for the Parisian startup, Smartback. The company specializes in managing returns and trade-ins for large furniture retailers.

The project requirements were:

  • A mobile-responsive design that could be customized by brand (color, logo, variables)
  • The ability to take photos and make reservations of time slots with carriers
  • Collection of survey responses to a custom database
  • Access to a back-office for seamless data management by admin staff
  • The ability to add customers to the database and create personalized questions
  • The ability to choose and edit database variables, such as the furniture recovery date
  • Automatic sending of various types of emails (e.g. receipt of the request, two-day reminder)
  • The ability to track and monitor user activity, including incomplete requests
  • The configuration of several automations for the admin staff.

What was the goal of the project?

The goal of this project was to improve user experience by adding customization and features not available via a no-code tool, adding analytics and automations to streamline operations.

Project execution

The project was executed by a team of 5 developers, with my main role being the development of the backend. We used React.js, Node.js, and MongoDB for this project. The project took 3 weeks to complete.

Project results

As a result of this project, we were able to deliver an MVP that fulfilled all the requirements set in the product spec sheet. The mobile-responsive survey web app could be customized by brand, collect user responses and monitor behavior. The seamless data management and automation features helped streamline the process for the staff. The automations configured, such as updating the status of job requests, also helped improve the user experience for internal staff. Overall, the project was a success and helped Smartback grow as a business.
